On a cool winter evening, I and my brother were making our way to church for a worship team practice for the following Sunday. As we got closer to church we saw the traffic ahead us, coming to a stop. And we soon realized that we were standing in a long queue of traffic stretching over a kilometer. In the next few minutes we understood that the President of India who was in town for a couple of months was going to pass us by in the adjacent lane at any moment. Having the President of India passing us by was a huge event for me and I was excited to witness this.
We soon saw police men walking across the other side clearing the road, ordering people to get off the road and get into the nearby alleys. Shop owners were told to get into their shops, on lookers were sho-ed away while we were told to turn off our headlamps. Things got dark but the anticipation grew.
In the next few minutes we saw a troop of police vehicles pass us by with loudspeakers blaring informing us to step away from the road and keep it clear. The anxiousness came across on the faces of a few policemen as they checked and double checked every square meter of the way to ensure perfection.
30 minutes pass by and more and more police vehicles whizz past us, and with every passing second the suspense increases. As I look down at my watch, the corner of my eye catches a gleaming black vehicle whizzing 10 feet away from me. And as i looked up, a troop of the most sparkling, shiny vehicles that I have ever seen whoosh past me in complete precision, one behind the other in a breathtaking single-file formation. This was preceded with an Army truck possibly carrying the National Security Gaurd, the most well trained troops in the country, followed by an Ambulance for any medical emergencies.
Within a couple of minutes the roads return to its normal chaos...in true Indian style :D.
This experience stuck with me as we finally reached church and the days following this I soon began to realise what God was trying to get through to me. When the President of India decides to drive-by the whole city comes to a stand still, yet when the greatest person in the universe...The Holy Spirit walks into our everyday lives and routines, we never give Him the time or respect He alone deserves. We've given our television sets, computers, internet, work, pleasure, etc more importance than we give to the most powerful yet the most gentle person of the trinity.
