On August 15th, India celebrated its 63rd Independence from colonialism and slavery. On the eve of India's independence, towards midnight, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru made a speech to the Indian Constituent Assembly which now is considered as a landmark oration capturing the essence of India's freedom struggle.
"Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and Her people and to the still larger cause of humanity." (an excerpt).
62 years since independence, India is seen as a game - changer in the world today. Every major nation wants to have strategic alliance with Her. All the global group of nations meets ( the G8, G20...) want to accommodate India. Indians have spread far and wide, going beyond colour, race, economic backgrounds, etc to become leaders shaping the corporate world. The modern Indian, is proud to be identified as an Indian.
More than half a century has passed since independence. We have witnessed growth across so many fields but there is also a downside to all of this. So many villages lack basic amenities like clean drinking water, hygienic sanitary systems, decent schools & health facilities, and the list goes on. Poverty and exploitation has forced so many thousands of children to wake up each morning to work in harmful factories. Cases of rape, murder, dacoity, robbery, injustice, corruption, exploitation, etc has increased so much.
Most of us do not know how it feels to be slaves of a foreign land, but we witness what slavery to sin does in our everyday lives. Sin has caused people to forsake every moral thought. People don't think twice before taking over the city of Mumbai as hostage. Countries don't think twice before declaring a mad war on another country in search of weapons of mass destruction. Perverted men don't think twice about attacking an innocent girl in a dark corner street, raping her of her dignity and a chance to lead a normal life. The institute of marriage is now made a mockery with the convenience of divorces, live-in relationships, non - abstinence. Society is now contemplating the legalization of Homosexuality.
Where did it go wrong ? Where has the freedom that we fought for and now celebrate...gone ? Sin has distorted everything that was holy and pure. They hold us captive to the freedom that Jesus bought for us on the cross. The answer to true freedom... JESUS CHRIST.
Let the churches of Hyderabad rise. Arise to bring 9 million Hyderabadi's to Christ. Let the Christians rise up in Mumbai to see 19 million people brought to the acknowledgment of their Creator. 16 million in Delhi, 15 million plus in Kolkata await to hear the story of salvation and freedom. More than 1 billion people await on us to keep their "tryst with destiny" as Nehru said. India's destiny... Jesus Christ.
Can we utter this prayer to God on behalf of our country...
"Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people, Dispenser of India's destiny.
Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujarat and Maratha,
Of the Dravida and Orissa and Bengal;
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas, mingles in the music of Jamuna and Ganges and is chanted by the waves of the Indian Sea.
They pray for thy blessings and sing thy praise. The saving of all people waits in thy hand, Thou dispenser of India's destiny.
Victory, victory, victory to thee." (English translation of India's Anthem).
India will keep Her tryst with Destiny if we keep our tryst with Him
Its a thought provoking aspect,This question especially.....
